Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety Engineer for Tärnsjö Garveri

Tärnsjö Garveri is a historic company located in northwestern Uppland. We combine traditional vegetable tanning with solid craftsmanship knowledge and the production of high-quality leather products. We are now looking for an Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety Engineer for our factory in Tärnsjö – a person who shares our passion for craftsmanship and quality.

Role Description

As an Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety Engineer, you are responsible for developing and coordinating the company's work within environmental and occupational health & safety. The role involves ensuring that operations comply with relevant legislation and internal guidelines, as well as driving systematic and preventive occupational health & safety work. You will work both strategically and operationally – from structure and action plans to follow-up, measurements, and improvement initiatives. You will become an important collaboration partner in the organization and contribute to a safe, sustainable, and efficient workplace.

The position is 100% on-site in Tärnsjö, and you report to the CEO.

Examples of Responsibilities

• Drive SHES (Systematic Health, Environment, Safety, and Security), self-control checks, and create action plans.
• Convene and participate in the safety committee (at least 2 times/year) and occupational health & safety forum as needed.
• Conduct safety rounds, risk assessments, and follow-ups.
• Coordinate job adaptation and rehabilitation efforts.
• Handle incidents/near-misses/accidents: reporting, investigation, and action follow-up.
• Work with chemical management (registers, risk assessments) and protective equipment in production.
• Act as the contact person for authorities and environmental/occupational health & safety-related issues.
• Drive improvement projects that strengthen occupational health & safety and environmental performance.

Required Qualifications

• Engineering degree with a focus on environment, occupational health & safety, health, and safety.
• Knowledge of environmental and occupational health & safety legislation as well as relevant standards.
• Ability to analyze technical and organizational risks.
• Pedagogical skills.

Desirable Qualifications

• Previous experience as an occupational health & safety engineer in an industrial company.
